Peer Request

To complement their work on energy efficiency and sustainability a local government is pursuing virtual net metering projects for their city. The local government is looking for specific details on cost, who paid for the project, payback for tenants, generation going to tenants including $ values, and who is managing allocations. If you can provide a contact or information on this subject please contact me at cgarcia@lgc.org.

Energy Efficiency Research

A UC San Diego graduate student is researching "frontier" energy efficiency policies. They are focused on how cities use existing inspection processes to promote energy efficiency upgrades and deter low-performing or unpermitted improvements. A team of MIT researchers has developed a computer simulation that can optimize building design, balancing the energy use of a building with the energy requirements for making the building materials themselves.

Proposition 39 Progress Report is Now Available
This is the Energy Commission’s second progress report to the Citizens Oversight Board. The report covers the period from December 19, 2013, when the Proposition 39: California Clean Energy Jobs Act – Program Implementation Guidelines were approved, to June 30, 2016.

Mentoring Program - AWWEE
The Association of Women in Water, Energy and Environment (AWWEE) have launched their new mentoring program. Applications will be accepted through Friday, March 3.

LG Input Requested: Energy Impacts of Cannabis Cultivation Workshop
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is holding this workshop February 28th to examine the increase in electricity demand that may be expected from increased cannabis cultivation in California.

Green Bank Accounting
An ACEEE report examining green banks across the country, reporting on progress and best practices for this novel approach to supporting energy efficiency improvements. The review includes California's version of green banking.

Behavior Change Programs: Status and Impact
Behavior programs are based on social science theories of behavior change and excludes those that rely on traditional program strategies such as incentives, rebates, or regulations. This report provides a comprehensive description of behavior based efficiency programs and a review of current progress around the country.

The California Clean Energy Jobs Act (Prop 39) Citizens Oversight Board Meeting will be holding a board meeting on February 9, 2017.

Community Choice Aggregation En Banc Hearing
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will hold a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) En Banc hearing on February 1, 2017.

A Water Sector Energy Hog 
Water use accounts for about 20 percent of California’s electricity use and 30 percent of natural gas used by businesses and homes according to Alvar Escriva-Bou at the the Public Policy Institute of California.

Art Rosenfeld, California’s Godfather of Energy Efficiency, 90
Art Rosenfeld, known as California’s “godfather” of energy efficiency and who has been credited with being personally responsible for billions of dollars in energy savings, died Friday at his home in Berkeley, California.

Energy Commission Adopts RPS Results for POUs, Energy Demand Forecast Through 2027
The California Energy Commission looked back during today’s business meeting to see how publicly owned utilities (POUs) did in meeting California’s renewable energy requirements from 2011-2013 and looked ahead to predict how much energy the state will need through 2027.

The Statewide Energy Efficiency Collaborative (SEEC) released a new fact sheet on weatherization targeted for California local governments.
