At the SJVCEO we always look for ways to bring access closer to home to help our communities save money by saving energy. We’re working together with PG&E make sure our small businesses have the information they need to thrive!
PG&E understands the issues that small businesses face. They offer easy to access, easy to use tools and resources that not only help educate how to better use energy but can also provide cash incentives and rebates that offer support when additional critical services are needed.
From the Self Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) program which provides financial incentives for installing battery storage or generation equipment, to additional backup power that help restore power during PSPS events, PG&E strives to enhance resiliency and reliability for all communities across their service territory.
Small businesses across California face an ever-growing list of challenges, “From temporary closures to reducing their workforce, many small businesses have been pushed to the brink: 64% of California small businesses report they have been negatively affected by the pandemic, and 56% report their revenues are still down compared to last year” (Small Business Majority, 2021). The lack of “long term relief program” opportunities to rebuild, education resources, and staff capacity are just a few of the main challenges that small business owners face.
All this to say the priorities of small businesses have shifted to survival. Functioning in “survival mode” is even more common for small businesses in rural parts of California. In addition to normal business challenges, they are geographically isolated, experience higher costs for goods movement, and access to support services is limited. Rural areas remain frustratingly behind the curve on access to broadband and lack economic investment from their local governments.
However, when it comes to energy efficiency-resources exist that not only help small businesses tackle these challenges, but help pave the way for a sustainable, successful future. Whether experiencing Public Safety Power Shutoffs or not being able to cover the cost of back up generation to your facility, PG&E can to help alleviate that stress and allow small businesses to focus on growing past surviving and start thriving in their communities!
