SCE Files Annual Update to 2020-2022 Wildfire Mitigation Plan
SCE recently filed their 2021 Wildfire Mitigation Plan annual update, which outlines how they will expand existing programs, incorporate lessons learned and test new technologies to keep California communities safe from the threat of wildfire. This year, SCE looks forward to making significant progress in the following key focus areas:

1. Refining its high fire risk inspections strategy to include inspections in targeted areas based on emergent conditions, including fire weather conditions such as dry fuels;

2. Expanding its system hardening activities to include long-span remediation by installing line spacers on long power lines that are prone to conductor-to-conductor contact during windy conditions;

3. Establishing central data platforms for next-generation data analytics and governance;

4. Improving fire agencies’ ability to detect and respond to emerging fires using satellite imagery and providing aerial fire suppression resources (e.g., helitankers) to fire agencies to help protect communities in SCE’s service area;

Read how these actions will reduce the need for PSPS in high fire risk areas and minimize the number of affected customers.

Critical Care Backup Battery Program
The Critical Care Backup Battery (CCBB) Program offers eligible customers a free portable backup battery to power medical devices in the event of a power outage. The program also provides eligible customers with a solar panel kit for additional charging capability.

What is included with the CCBB Program?
Along with a portable, rechargeable, clean-energy backup battery, the program provides a solar panel kit for additional charging capability. The batteries come in a variety of sizes to provide temporary power to critical medical devices and, with the solar panels, are delivered and set up at no cost to eligible customers. Learn more about CCBB Program qualifications and eligibility.

How does the CCBB Program work?
In one simple phone call, an SCE-approved contractor will verify your eligibility, determine the appropriate battery size for your current medical device(s), and arrange an appointment for delivery. Like the battery, the delivery and set up — which includes reviewing the simple operation and care of the equipment — is provided at no cost to eligible customers.

Investing in Community Preparedness
SCE contributed $2.2 million toward the Orange County Fire Authority’s lease of a Coulson-Unical CH-47 helitanker from October to December last year, a busy period during California's now year-round wildfire season.
