Task Tuning, also known as institutional task-tuning or high-end trim, is a highly effective strategy for energy savings. This is particularly true in spaces where the lighting was designed by a contractor instead of a lighting designer. A lighting designer uses Illuminating Engineering Society-recommended (IES) maintained task light levels for individual spaces rather than generalized lighting levels for an entire group of working areas.
Task Tuning, when used in concert with light harvesting, can generate as much as 36% lighting energy savings. This strategy can be implemented manually or automated with technology. New LED general lighting can be installed and operated by an intelligent lighting control system with high-end trim capability. Wherever lighting controls such as these can be utilized, the cost of implementation is reduced because the need to make manual adjustments is reduced. Also, planning for incremental changes over time with feedback from occupants is also highly recommended for optimal success.
