Deciding to buy or lease an electric vehicle (EV) is a big decision. Not only are EVs a pricey investment, but also charging stations are less ubiquitous than gas stations.

The good news is that there are plenty of rebates, resources and new charging stations for San Joaquin Valley residents than ever before.

Rebates

You can get up to $17,500 in rebates on your new EV through federal, state and local agencies:

Plug-in EVs are eligible for federal rebates between $2,500 and $7,500 depending on the vehicle type. Request these credits when you file your taxes and fill out the required EV credit forms based on the vehicle purchased.

California State also has rebates on the purchase or lease of a new EV. You can get up to $7,000 for your new vehicle. Apply directly through California Air Resources Board’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project website and monitor the progress of your application.

The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District also offers a rebate for your new clean vehicle. Depending on the technology of your new car (battery electric, natural gas, etc.) you can get up to $3,000. Apply through their website and monitor the progress of your application.

Charging

In the spring of 2014, the SJVCEO worked with Fresno State Office of Community and Economic Development, Clean Cities Coalition, Kern County Community College District, and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District to create a coalition that would grow the EV industry in the Valley. There were only 2 charging stations in the entire Valley at the time and this was a huge barrier to getting Valley residents even interested in the EV technology, let alone actually driving one.
