I am sure you are all aware of the California’s push toward 100% renewable energy. A BIG part of this initiative is building electrification. Building electrification means, converting from using natural gas appliances to appliances that use electricity. There are many cost-effective ways to do this. An excellent solution that can replace your current gas furnace and save you BIG BUCKS is:
Electric Heat Pump
An electric heat pump is a great alternative to a traditional natural gas furnace. Electric heat pumps work by taking cooler air from outside in the summertime, making it even cooler and moving it inside of the building. In the wintertime, they use the same process in reverse to heat an interior space.
Electric heat pumps work much more efficiently than traditional air conditioners and natural gas furnaces for a few reasons:
They actually remove hot air from the interior space in the summer and they remove cold air from the interior space in the winter. This reduces the amount of work heating and cooling mechanisms must do to keep an interior space comfortable.
A heat pump heats and cools using the same process (in reverse) while air conditioners and natural gas furnaces are single function. Here, you are able to combine functionality into one system.
Heat pumps move heat rather than generate heat resulting in just ¼ of the energy used by a traditional heating or cooling appliance.
Many heat pumps come equipped with a desuperheater, which recovers waste heat from the heat pump’s cooling mode and uses it to heat water. This method of water heating is 2-3 times more efficient than an ordinary electric water heater.
