Technology Tuesday: Window Shading

If you are looking for additional ways to save BIG on energy efficiency in your office space. Consider window shades.

Window shades save energy by blocking heat from entering the space in the summer which reduces cooling load. They can also save money by reducing the amount of heat loss in the winter through the windows. They actually add to the R-value of the window so, think of them as additional insulation. The amount of savings possible with this measure depends on the specific type of window shading and its application.

Some common types of window shades include:

Insulated Cellular Shades
Insulated cellular shades are window coverings that are made up of pleated materials and are folded accordion-style into the top of the window.

Of all window coverings, insulated cellular shades have the highest R-value. They can reduce heat loss by up to 40% and unwanted solar heat gain through windows by up to 80%. This translates into significant savings at the meter.

Window Films
This is a relatively inexpensive way to reduce unwanted heat gain in your office space.
